Summary

Accessibility is an important issue. Even small measures can reduce accessibility barriers.

The focus is on people and their individual needs. Every accessibility problem is a problem with individual needs. The range is very wide and sometimes contradictory.

Compromise as a minimum

As a minimum, the WCAG guidelines should be met. The different needs of people are very complex. There is (almost) no solution for everything.

Factors important for more accessibility

It is important to focus on the following points:

  • Simplicity: A clear layout and clear structure of the page
  • Contrast: Ensure sufficient contrast between text and background.
  • Alternative texts: Use meaningful alternative texts for images and graphic elements.
  • Keyboard operability: Ensure that all functions and content are keyboard operable.
  • Headline structure: Use a clear and consistent heading structure.
  • Forms: Label form elements clearly and make them easy to use.
  • Usability: Make sure interactive elements are clearly recognizable and easy to use.
  • Video and audio content: Provide transcripts and subtitles for multimedia content.
  • Colors: Do not use colors solely to differentiate elements.
  • Error handling: Make sure error messages are clear and helpful.
  • Navigation: Ensure navigation is clear and consistent.
