BITV-Test Self-Assessment
The BITV-Test Self-Assessment is an online tool developed by the BIK project group. It enables a simplified evaluation of website accessibility based on selected criteria from WCAG 2.1 and the German BITV 2.0.
Unlike comprehensive audits or tools like BAAT, the self-assessment focuses on a low-threshold and quick evaluation of accessibility.
Application Areas of the BITV-Test Self-Assessment
- Initial self-evaluation of websites
- Raising awareness for typical barriers
- Preparation for more comprehensive testing procedures
Features of the BITV-Test Self-Assessment
- Testing of selected success factors for accessibility
- Structured questions on the implementation of WCAG and BITV criteria
- Results overview at the end of the test
- No installation required, browser-based
Testing Variants of the BITV-Test Self-Assessment
The BITV-Test Self-Assessment supports various testing standards:
- BITV 2.0: German Barrier-free Information Technology Ordinance (based on EN 301 549)
- WCAG 2.1: International Web Content Accessibility Guidelines at conformance level AA
- EN 301 549: European standard for accessibility of information and communication technology
This allows the self-assessment to be flexibly adapted to legal requirements or individual project specifications.

The results of this self-assessment do not replace a complete audit, but they provide an initial evaluation of a website’s accessibility and are particularly suitable for beginners.
